Define Art

Art is a concept that refers to any skill or mastery that appeals to our sense and emotions. It is the practice of intentionally using skill and imagination in such a way that it becomes attractive and stimulates our thoughts, emotions, beliefs or ideas through the senses. Art comprises a wide-ranging human activities, creations, aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences and offbeat forms of expression, like music, literature, artifact, artillery, medical arts, and military arts among others. Art is also an expression of a thought or creativity that serves to communicate ideas, a sense of beauty or simply for pleasure.

It is also an expression of an idea and it can take many different forms and serve many different purposes. There are various techniques and methods that can be used in achieving an artwork. This means the manner in which an artwork looks. This usually involves developing ideas through experimentation, exploring different ways of designing and manipulation of ideas, beliefs, interpretations, intentions, skills, technology and actions. For example, the "dab" technique is used in the traditional western oil painting on canvas, while the coiling technique is used in pottery. Art also involves building of various designs in work of painting, drawing, photograph, collage, computer graphics. There is a lot of designing involved in three dimensional structures like furniture, appliances or furnishings mainly us for commercial purposes.

Works of art can also include painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, computer and digital graphics, architecture, ceramics and Visual Design among others. Visual design is a type of art that uses media, materials, images, signs and symbols and the available technology to communicate an expression, illusion, imagination, teaching or prediction. Graphic arts is generally used for drawing and printmaking, such as advertising, photography and digital media.

Other forms of art use portraits of specific people or some human figure to express feelings, as objects of reverence, as symbols of fertility or death, strength or weakness, humorous or informative. A number of animals and plants have also been used as symbols or motifs for design or expression of feelings, humour or any other debatable issues such as feminism, multiculturalism, pollution or animal rights.

Other offbeat type of artwork like abstract art is non emblematic as it does not look like or represent anything seen and forces the viewer to think of ideas or trigger thoughts in the viewer. However this type of an artwork does not copy the seen world or contain images. It makes images less realistic via alteration or exaggeration and changed to make it less understandable.
